Elk Horn Golf Club
Sun Valley, Idaho

Designers: Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

After 30 years of changing ownerships, managements, memberships, and the quality of the golf course, Elkhorn has been reborn. With an unwavering commitment to bring this uncertainty to an end, our owners have spent the last three years planning, renovating, and constructing what is the new Elkhorn Golf Club. All efforts during this time were made with two objectives in mind: first and foremost was to create a unique and wonderful private club experience, the second was to return Elkhorn to the top of golf course rankings in Idaho.

On July 2nd, 2005 Elkhorn was reopened to rave reviews as a private club following an 18-month renovation and construction period. Additionally, during this time a new membership was offered with over 210 new members joining in the first 10 months. By the time the club opened there was a waiting list to join. Membership in the Club means privilege; it means belonging to a Golf Club of unequal quality in beautiful Sun Valley. Impeccable service, first-class amenities, and the finest playing conditions are all a part of the experience that is the new Elkhorn Golf Club, a Troon Golf Prive club.

A Robert Trent Jones Sr./Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed 18-hole championship golf course is the jewel of the Club. Opened originally in 1974, our great course represents one of the last collaborations by this renowned father/son team. Situated on 280 acres along the base of Dollar Mountain in Sun Valley, Idaho the front nine is best know for its elevated tees, dramatic mountain vistas and rolling fairways. The back nine does not contain the elevations changes of the front but do not let this fool you into thinking it is easier. You will quickly notice water features on 8 of the 9 holes as you play along and over ponds, wetlands, and Elkhorn Creek.

The renovation and renewal of this spectacular golf course included a new state-of-the-art irrigation system, a complete bunker renovation, rebuilding every green and the resurfacing of all tees and fairways. Other modifications, including additional tee boxes, which were added for more variety and increased player friendliness. All of this was completed while maintaining the essence of the Joneses’ classic design.

Elkhorn Golf Club also has a new ‘home’, a beautiful 16,000 square foot facility houses the golf shop, dining room, men and women’s locker rooms, administrative offices, golf club/cart storage, and a drive-up snack bar. Whether you are shopping in our fully stocked Golf Shop, enjoying lunch in the Dining Room, or sharing a drink following your round on the Terrace, the staff at Elkhorn will make sure your experience is truly pleasurable.
